From Our Medical Director

Thomas W. Henderson, M.D.

I am frequently reminded that what makes Faith Family Medical Clinic special is relationships - my relationship with God, with my coworkers, with our patients, and with our supporters.  By nature, I can be a bit reclusive, but God has seen fit to usher me into this giving and serving "community" and use me, I trust, for His purpose.

Recently I received a present from my family that I thoroughly enjoy - a satellite radio.  Although there are over 200 stations to choose from, I find myself returning to one in particular: "Escape".  This station features orchestral renditions of popular songs from the last sixty years, (what my family affectionately refers to as "elevator music").

Several of the songs I've heard remind me of something perhaps a bit loftier than their original sentiment.  A few examples are:

"Cast your fate to the wind"

This is what many people must resort to if they are not blessed with health insurance.

"What are you doing with the rest of your life?"

What we ask our patients as they struggle with a variety of medical and spiritual issues.

"Love is a many-splendored thing"

Nothing is more splendid than God's love.

"You'll never walk alone"

What a joy (and sometimes challenge) it is to get to know our patients and develop a trusting relationship with them; to suffer when they suffer, and to rejoice when they rejoice.

Thank you for your steadfast trust and support, and for helping to make a real difference in the lives of our uninsured neighbors.  And just one more song - going back a bit further in time...

"But I trust in you, O Lord, I say, You are my God.  My times are in your hands." Psalm 31 v14-15
