Chance Martin

Chance Martin is a Nashville native who defies categorization. Songwriter, comedian, photographer, ordained minister and radio personality are just a few of the trades he’s undertaken during his 62 years. Currently known as the “Voice in Black” Alamo Jones to millions of fans of the Cowboy Jack Clement radio show on Sirius XM, Chance is also one of thousands of Tennesseans who lost TennCare coverage in 2005.

With multiple health issues, Chance was suddenly living without medical insurance. After bad experiences at other clinics, he started praying for a way to get the health care he really needed. “I think divine guidance led me here more than anything,” he says with confidence. During his first appointment with Traci Warner, a Nurse Practitioner at Faith Family, Chance says he knew very clearly he was in the right place. “Traci is so good at what she does,” he says. “She made me feel comfortable right away.”

Chance’s many health problems include type 2 Diabetes and high blood pressure. “I couldn’t buy the medicines I need,” he says. Thanks to Faith Family and the prescription assistance program, he gets his medication for free. “I couldn’t do that myself,” he adds. “I’d be dead without these people. They keep me alive.” Chance says that his good blood pressure reports when he visits the Clinic are evidence of how relaxed the Clinic environment makes him, and of how well he’s being cared for.

After years of disorganized and inconsistent medical care, Chance is another testimony not only to the importance of a clinic like Faith Family, but also to the value of the personal attention and time each patient receives. “This is about more than just coming in to get his diabetes treated,” says Traci, Chance’s main practitioner. “We know him. And he knows us. We help him manage his diseases. He shares copies of his latest CDs with us.” This familiarity between patients and caregivers is an important part of what Faith Family offers, and goes a long way in helping patients take their health seriously.

For Chance, a three month check up is something he looks forward to. “I know my health is taken care of,” he says. “I feel better than I’ve felt in years, and I get to do what I love to do. Who could ask for more?”
